The extras sound good. It makes me think there's enough people and information out there to make half a dozen documentaries. The older the people who knew him get, the more we stand to lose, personal history-wise. It's good to get it all down while most of the principals are still alive and kicking.
  2. on Amazon France the DVD is available, but no info as to the subtitles, extras, etc.

more info on the French release:

I can't read French, but it seems to be the 90m version with French subtitles only!
as a bonus, they throw in the full Apostrophes episode. I doubt this will be included in the US version.

    contents of the second DVD:

Im gonna preorder this right now.

my friend works in a video store and found a cool add in a magazine for Born Into This. I'll try to scan it.

I was waiting for someone to notice that - ha ha.

How irrelevant and just plain fucked is that?

She's also about three feet tall, judging by the size of the table she's standing next to...

yes that really doesnt make sense.
  7. Maybe I'm just blind, but I don't see that picture on this website anymore. Did they make you take it down, mjp?
  8. mjp

  9. No, I mean the original black and white photograph.
  10. HenryChinaski North Star Deserter

    black and white photo?
  11. The same exact picture as the Born DVD cover, except black and white and sans that woman.
  12. mjp

I used to use that as the main index photo...I don't know if it was ever in the photos section.
  13. mjp

Actually it was a different photo. Same general pose.

  14. I'm 99.9% certain you had a picture exactly like the Born cover. But whatever.
  15. Erik If u don't know the poetry u don't know Bukowski

Mostly very positive reviews, but that's not surprising, it was a very good documentary. I assumed it would fall short, and went in with admittedly low expectations, but it was a very moving and insightful (if not comprehensive, but what 2 hour film could be?), piece of work.

I particularly liked Ebert's review, since he wound up being a character in the Hollywood book. The link on that site doesn't take you directly to it, so here it is:

"How much was legend, how much was pose, how much was real? I think it was all real..."
  17. A lot of reviews accuse Dullughan of hagiography, which makes sense. I think it really is only for the real Buk enthusiast.

And why do the hell do the brits go Apostrophes? talk about unfair...
  18. mjp

    Exactly!

Though I can't find a list of the U.S. 'extras' at the moment, so maybe we get something good too. If not, some crafty UK types will be able to make some $$ selling Euro-copies on ebay...
  19. HenryChinaski North Star Deserter

i'd buy one. we better get the extras...HE WAS MORE AMERICAN ANYWAYS.
  20. mjp

Yet he clung to the German side of his heritage, even though he didn't remember living there, and didn't grow up speaking German.
  21. HenryChinaski North Star Deserter

yes but called California home for about 70 years of his life

and how many times did he visit germany? once? twice? I think it was once.
  22. Apostrophes

I haven't seen anything about a UK release yet... are you talking about the French release mentioned above? If so, it makes sense that they have a French TV show on their DVD :D

If there's a UK release planned, can someone post a link?
