Following up on the post here, here is the rest of the unpublished/uncollected from nyq 55.

One note, the poem listed in the database has "fame" in Open All Night, p. 325. Actually the nyq 55 "fame" is printed in The Flash of Lightning, p. 252, as "fame at last".

Fixed.

I assume the traditional changes were made in the Flash of Lightning version?

Not as much as with others. But still:

In the first stanza Bukowski goes second person at the ninth line -- "you answer the questions" -- and continues to the end of the stanza -- "where was that whore when you were...." -- while the "editor" in Flash changes it to first person, "I". Better? Consistent? Made it past Packard's editorial scrutiny back then.

And the last stanza is altered from "nobody knows what it's like to/be alone" to "doesn't anybody else realize what it's like to/be alone at the/top?" That change seems quite unnecessary.

(not sure about the page order; and I OCR'd it which may have introduced a slight character error here or there)
Page order, as best as I can make out from the various "how-can-i-fuck-this-up" factors, is:

p. 23 -- the gym co@ch
p. 25 -- Lucinda
p. 30 -- writers
p. 34 -- fame
p. 37 -- working out -- again
p. 40 -- hunk of rock

Oops, I missed writers. Will do another one. Do you have fame scanned DiB?
