    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

No, I'm afraid I was mistaken concerning what I thought was an inscribed NYG to Al Purdy. It was actually a copy that was sent via Paget press to be given to Purdy. On the purple paper dust jacket is a inscription from someone at Paget to Purdy. I got the NYG '84 and The Sampler for $200. I...

Play the Piano - fake drawings?

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't put my dog on the fire to test the veracity of that fake... hey chewy.... come.

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

Indeed it does. It reads sharp, to the truth without any extraneous effort. Yes, these poems can be found elsewhere, but this Sampler is a beauty to behold. Blazek's introduction sets up the casual Buk reader for a royal flush of discovery. Buk's doodles throughout add to what at the time must...

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

So today was the first chance I had to visit the bookstore where I saw the Bukowski materials I mentioned recently in this thread. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but if I may rephrase, this picture is worth $200 I'm feeling pretty good about this purchase. Any guilt I might...

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

If I remember correctly, the NYG The Last Generation is HC, so in terms of investment that would be a more logical choice. For some reason, I'm really drawn to the Sampler. The Buk drawing on the cover has a big appeal for me. I guess I'm a sucker for packaging. I would definitely treasure it...

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

I just paid the rent and there's always beer in the fridge, so, what the hell. If I do decide to get it, I could always turn around and sell it and possibly recoup my investment. The bookstore also had some other interesting Buk material, such as: NYG - BSP -The Last Generation -1982 - $125...

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

Thanks for the link, hank solo. After checking each piece, it appears that there are no selections that are exclusive to Sampler. Having said that, there are a half dozen or so, that aren't collected in easy to find BSP books. So until I find copies such as Terror Way, Crucifix, Poems... Jumping...

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

Thanks Bill, I suspect that I'll be the proud owner of Sampler come tomorrow. Just curious, do most of the poems originate from BSP publications?

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

Can anyone confirm that there are any poems in Sampler that aren't available anywhere else? I tried the link from mjp from post #25, but it appears to be dead. If so, I'd be more willing to invest in it than not.

    Bukowski Sampler -- variants?

I was at a used bookstore today and was just about to ask the lady behind the counter if they had any Bukowski, when I noticed on a shelf behind her a first edition of The Bukowski Sampler. I have been a collector of Buk's for about twelve years now, but this was the first time I ever laid eyes...

    Post Your Bukowski Collection

Thanks for your thoughts, Ponder and Bukfan. I would gladly label myself a Buk nut. With the addition of Shakespeare Never Did This, I'm pretty sure that I have all the readily available BSP books(a few being ECCO editions). I used to pass it over in favor of the novels and poetry stuff, but I'm...

    Post Your Bukowski Collection

After browsing this site and discovering that Pleasures of the Damned includes 20 never collected poems, I have decided to get a HC copy off of amazon. In order to get free shipping, I also purchased Shakespeare Never Did This (ECCO). With these books I was .66 cents under for the free shipping...

    Post Your Bukowski Collection

It's definitely a must have collection of correspondance between two like-minded writers. I finished reading it in a day. I wonder how they would have got along, had they met in person?

    Post Your Bukowski Collection

Greetings, I thought I would share my recent acquisitions from a trip to Seattle last week. I was thrilled to find a copy of The Buk/Purdy letters in very good condition for only ten dollars. That find made the whole trip worth it. I must say that Seattle as a city far exceeded my expectations...
