Personally, I like my career. It took me a while. I didn't start until I was 26. Before that, I worked job after job that I hated, which is coincidentally when I discovered Bukowski!
I enjoyed Love is a Dog From Hell far more than Pulp. I barely consider Pulp a Bukowski book. I tell people it's the only one they should skip. Maybe I'm being too harsh. I've only read it once. I should give it a second read.
Still wondering if anyone knows where to locate the photo I'm using as my picture.
I need the one where the forehead isn't cut off.
I'd be a huge help if anyone knew where to find that.
Advanced thanks.
He either:
Had it delivered by female receptionists that he seduced
OR
Stole it from wherever he was employed at the time.
But seriously, interesting thread / thoughts.
I started with Women but when I'm suggesting new readers to Bukowski, I go with Post Office. Quick, easy read. If they like that, I usually suggest Ham on Rye and then Women.
I haven't really thought about how MY life was going when I found Buk. It was a relatively normal time in my life. I had just broken up with a crazy girl and I was hating my job. I was probably drinking an average amount. Once or twice a week. I consider that average, or "healthy".
I don't know if they're all necessarily the greatest, but, they're my favorite. "Greatest" is a convoluted term. People love Faulkner. I can't stomach him. Doesn't mean he wasn't great.
