In an undated letter to Crews --most likely sent in late 1953-- he says: "Met Janet Knauff yesterday. She has met you. Took her to the races". Knauff died in the early 1960s.

It was pretty much cut in half. Bukowski talks about that in his correspondence at the time. I do not have the actual numbers with me now, but the attached images should give you a good idea of the editing that was done then.
