Charles Bukowski Live DVDs: "The Last Straw" and "There's Gonna Be a God Damn Riot In Here!"

So I am currently selling two DVDs on eBay. Here are the links: http://www.ebay.com/itm/262683614817 http://www.ebay.com/itm/262683626306 Not sure which forum category applies "on eBay" or "for sale". I chose "for sale" since I am the one who has created the ebay listings. Cheers.

    Bukowski's army story

Yeah, it looks like my theory has failed. Still... I think that the psychological tests were more complicated than Bukowski described. It just seems too easy, too funny to be true. Was it just a simple chat with psychiatrist when you joined the army?

    Bukowski's army story

You make it sound like we're having a fight here. We're having a discussion, we can't have a discussion if we agree with each other all the time. Sure, it's just a theory that's based on my personal opinion. I made it up because I find it hard to believe Bukowski's story that he's telling in...

    Bukowski's army story

I agree, "Ham on Rye" is a novel, not an autobiography, so it might not be 100% true - can't argue with that. But about that yearbook picture: Beverly Knox talks about this picture in "Born Into This" and she says: "this is the picture that has been touched up as you can see. his face was...

    Bukowski's army story

OK, I see the timetable. I see that in 1933/34 it starts and that he undergoes painful treatments. But I also remember that he wrote that the treatments were pretty useless ("Ham on Rye" chapters 32-35) and he had to stop them because his father got a job and Bukowski could no longer qualify for...

    Bukowski's army story

Wouldn't being officially mentally unstable prohibit him from holding a driver's licence?

    Bukowski's army story

Not exactly. Remember, in "Ham on Rye" he writes about his senior prom: "They all danced beautifully and the music was loud and clear and good, powerful. Then I caught a glimpse of my reflection staring in at them - boils and scars on my face, my ragged shirt." ...and that's the year 1939...

    Bukowski's army story

Gernard: sure, this thread is an internet scam. I started it because I wanted to sell you old Soviet army hats. It wasn't just few pimples here and there. As far as I understand it was an extremely severe case of acne. Of course I could be wrong, it's just a version. But to me it sounds more...

    Bukowski's army story

Ever since I watched "Born Into This" I was wondering if this story is true: It looks to me as some bullshit story that Bukowski came up with to hide the true reason why he was rejected. All this Bukowski/doctor conversation just doesn't sound real. In Howard Sounes book there are few...

    Bukowski: Born Into This

I agree. I hate that part where Bono is reading Bukowski poetry. I always turn the volume down or fast-forward to the next scene. In my opinion Bono is just a huge douche with fancy sunglasses and huge ego. I doubt that he really likes or understands Bukowski poems/novels. Other than that...

    barry miles' Buk bio

So... I finished reading Howard Sounes book yesterday. I agree, it is much better. It reads like a story, while Barry Miles Buk bio is written more like an encyclopedia. However I'd still suggest Barry Miles book to anyone. Especially if he/she is going to read it BEFORE Sounes book :)

From the Producer... The Last Straw

Watched both DVDs. It's a "must have" for every Buk fan. Really enjoyed "There's Gonna Be a God Damn Riot in Here!" because of the intense, wild, insulting communication with audience. "The Last Straw" seems to be not so wild but also is a DVD that I'll watch over and over again.

    Just finished reading 'Pulp'

From all his novels I liked Pulp the least (but still it is a great book).

"The Charles Bukowski / Second Coming Years" by A.D.Winans

Nope - I'll add "The Holy Grail" to my list. Don't get me wrong - the book is not overall bad, I just wanted add some criticism. 17 years of friendship, yes. But it was mostly through letters. In Bary Miles book I noticed that some Bukowski relationships that were based on letters ended when...

"The Charles Bukowski / Second Coming Years" by A.D.Winans

So I finished this book few weeks ago and I have mixed feelings about it... Sure, some episodes cover interesting facts about Bukowski life, but some parts of the book goes off topic or tells about A.D.Winans own adventures. Also there's a feeling throughout the book that A.D.Winans really...

    barry miles' Buk bio

Just finished reading it few minutes ago. I think it's a very well written, fundamental book and I would highly recommend it. In my opinion, Barry Miles did a great job.

    Why do you like Bukowski?

He gives me this comfortable feeling: "If this old fart made it, then probably I'll be OK too."

    Supervan

Yeah, that picture was probably made in 70s or 80s. If it's from Supervan movie, then it must be taken around 1977. Lili Taylor was born in 1967 so... 1. It's not Lili Taylor (because she was 10 years old in 1977) 2. It is Lili Taylor, but that picture is not from movie Supervan. Btw...

    Supervan

Could be... Looks very similar indeed. So one of the reasons why she agreed to play in Factotum (or was offered to) could be that at some point in her life she knew Bukowski personally... It makes sense.

Who is she? Here's a screenshot from "Born Into This": http://www.postimage.org/Pq2CypBr-8217b12b0953d583a20e2fd33a1071e0.jpg Does anyone know who is she?
