Critical Books on Bukowski's prose, especially his novel "Pulp" - for M.A thesis

OK so I digged out my copy of Jules Smith, and there isn't much about Pulp indeed. There is a chapter called "At the Movie and the Racetrack" which is probably why I thought of Smith in the first place, but it doesn't talk much about detective movies. David Calonne's book is great. Even if you...

Critical Books on Bukowski's prose, especially his novel "Pulp" - for M.A thesis

Oh shoot, there's no database at all in you university ? Even though I'm of Persian descent (salam!), I've never been to Iran myself. Maybe check the book written by Jules Smith on Bukowski. If I remember correctly, he wrote on Hollywood culture and detective novels at some point in the book...

Critical Books on Bukowski's prose, especially his novel "Pulp" - for M.A thesis

When you go to your college library, they should be able to show you a database of theses on Bukowski. Ask for a North American database, as there has been a fair number of studies there. To be honest, I don't know what angle you will take, but there's a good chance you'll have to come up with...

    Poor Pound - ouch!

Thank you MJP, I just typed his name in the search bar and found a lot of threads that I am going to read. But just in case I get lost in all those posts, was everyone certain at the time that his manuscripts were authentic?

    Monfort pictures online?

Hey Roni, Thank you for your super useful input.:) I was still wondering about something: sometimes it does feel that Bukowski is somewhat posing -especially when drinking from an empty bottle, or those famous profiles pictures. IIRC, he also did not look into the camera most of the time with...

    Monfort pictures online?

Hi all, As some of you know already, I finished my PhD dissertation on Bukowski (hurray!). In 10 days I will have my defense in Paris, which will last around 4 hours while I'm on a jetlag :emo: I received the preliminary reports, where among other things, I was reproached with not analysing...

"The Charles Bukowski / Second Coming Years" by A.D.Winans

I think this article makes some very valid points about Winans' memoirs , especially as to his motivations for writing the book in the first place: http://jacketmagazine.com/26/feast-winan.html

New book of prev unpublished/uncollected poetry in 2017

I'm late here, but I hope you're considering publishing early poems, like those in the UCSB archives. Please publish, if you have it, "advice for those unarmed against the constant melancholy". It's my favorite.

    Crucifix in a Deathhand title

Hi everyone, does anyone know if that poem title refers to something in particular? I remember reading something about it many, many years ago, and I seem to recall it had some kind of geographical meaning, but then again, I have a very bad memory. As always, thanks for your help!

    Typewriter samples

I came to this thread to help me date some manuscripts that I photocopied from UCSB, and frankly... I'm having a hard time distinguishing those different typings! But that's just me, thank you MJP for posting this, this is really great!

    Bukowski's face in pictures

I love how the thread turned out (thanks everyone!) and I sincerely hope that it is a waffle iron. One last question: has any picture or portrait of Bukowski ever appeared alongside his Notes of a Dirty Old Man? I couldn't get hold of any original Open City, and the few scans on the forum...

Mention of Hackford's documentary by one of Bukowski's ex-girlfriend or friend

And when I say 400 pages it's on top of the 110 pages I have already written, not to mention the thousands of pages I've read for my research (both primary and secondary sources). And still, this is only the second time I'm asking about something I read, in the 4 years I've been part if this...

Mention of Hackford's documentary by one of Bukowski's ex-girlfriend or friend

I do take notes, A LOT, but this time I only realized too late that this detail is more important than I thought(at least I remembered reading it). I have already written 2 master dissertations of 100pages each with no such issues, but now I have around 400 pages to write in a couple if months...

Mention of Hackford's documentary by one of Bukowski's ex-girlfriend or friend

I read a few days ago a detail that I only just realized was important. It was not written by Bukowski. So there's this woman (probably an ex) who had children. Those were wondering who was that old guy visiting their mom so often. Then she says that they saw taylor Hackford's documentary and...
