    Bukowski's funeral

I fully agree on this MJP. Were they chanting prayers or just creating atmosphere, you know, like organ music... But what's done is done. Spilled milk and all.

    Will it make my iPod?

I can clear that up: Vreeswijk was born in Holland (see the name), but his family moved to Sweden when he was twelve. The result is bilingual. Some songs he translated from Swedish to Dutch. Vreeswijk is a fine artist, on par with the best of them.

    Best Heartbreak albums ever...

Harry Nilsson & John Lennon - Pussy Cats, comes to mind. John was missing Yoko, but what about Harry? (Notice the yin/yang symbol on the cover.) ((Notice how John screams "I am lost" on the opening track.)) The whole album is on grooveshark.com .

    J.G. Ballard, r.i.p.

Ballard resembles Buk in that he had some terrible experiences in his childhood in China during WW2, which he kept on coming back to in his books. "Empire of the Sun" describes some of these childhood experiences. I like the reoccurring theme of empty buildings and drained swimming pools that...

    Li Po

You can download Ezra Pound's translation, "Cathay", in MP3 format here. I'd guess Buk would have appreciated "Cathay" as he was a bit into Pound's poetry himself and corresponded with Pound's old girlfriend. Librivox.org has a lot of listenable stuff. Not anything by Buk yet though. But of...

Bob Dylan lovers of the World, Unite!

I feel reluctant to do so, being most unaccustomed to contradicting anything the esteemed Hank Solo might say concerning Buk-texts, but may I most humbly point out that the text named "Jaggernaut: Wild Horse on a Plastic Phallus", (as it originally was named in Creem, vol.7, nr. 5, October...

    Bukowski Research Paper

OK, good take. Here's a topical topic: pick a volume of poetry and find out how many poems actually are about drinking, fucking, and horse racing. How many poems are there about small, everyday things?

    Bukowski Research Paper

First: give us your take on Bukowski. Why did you chose him? How did you find out about him? What have you read? Do you recite him at parties? Do you steal library books or just sniff their binders?

Bob Dylan lovers of the World, Unite!

Remember that poem where Buk mentions both Hitler & Dylan? Well, what do ya know! here's a recent interview where Dylan talks about the Stones and Hitler! And Buk once went to a Stones concert - get it? Didn't think so... ;)
