    Buk's apology to Wantling?

Have any of you noticed the unpublished foreward to William Wantling's "7 on Style" in "Portions from a Wine-stained Notebook"? In it Buk is both gracious and respectful concerning Wantling. It seems Buk sure could pour on the sugar if he wanted to... This stands in crass contrast to the way...

    Will it make my iPod?

Little Steven van Zandt is in Bergen this week producing the new album for the Cocktail Slippers. That's how I heard about them. Maybe Little Steven has a thing about flying-V guitars? Does he ever use one? And I'm with you G-love, there's something special about a good girl band.

Poems: The Light of Jesus / A Northern Acquaintance - Wormwood #43, 1971

Nice. Thanks. Notice how he uses the exact same facts as in the poem. And honestly, Buk did say similar things about his own poems, f.ex. when he said that he'd rather be the worlds best pool player or plumber rather than a poet. So the line about Purdy's wine making isn't that harsh in my opinion.

    Bukowski and the Beats

I totally agree David. Well put. By the way, apparently there's a new book out containing a selection of Ginsberg's letters. Does anybody have it yet and can they look the name "Bukowski" up in the index please? :D

    Does Bukowski mention George Orwell?

Good one Roni. By the way, have you heard of a guy called Schultheiss (click) who has illustrated a Buk-story from ToOM? I just became aware of a Norwegian translation of this.

    Does Bukowski mention George Orwell?

Don't recall Buk mentioning this book but he does mention Orwell's first book "Down and Out in Paris and London". Its sort of a documentary, a factotumish book describing Orwell's experiences in cheap jobs & on the bum in flophouses in France & London. Its a good read. Buk appreciates the book...

    Tony O'Neill

This one doesn't do much fr me. To morose - heavy - to well crafted - flat - impotent. The line seems almost too tight. I need to see something more, perhaps a wild glint of mad laughter despite it all. Some hint of irrational strength holding the poem together Otherwise it "smacks" to much of...

What are you listening to now?

I actually just discovered Grant Green last weekend.:o I'm not a jazz aficionado, as you may have guessed. What I like about him is that he has a sort of restrained simplicity. Too many jazz musicians turn me off when they launch into endless meandering displays of their technical abilities...

    Barbara Fry wrote poetry too

YIKES! That "poem" makes me think Barbara Thanks for sharing C. ! (I mean it! ;)) The reference to Borodin is interesting. Buk's poem was published in 58 the database says. So Fry did have some influence on the man it seems...
