I guess James A. Michener was a fan!

James A. Michener was a fan! Take a look at this: Poland - by James A. Michener I wonder if the "Buk family" is a prophetic reference to Bukowski.net... :D

    Flower, Fist on eBay

In a strange sort of way this seems very fitting considering that the name "Bukowski" is fairly common in Poland...:)

Donnie Darko Just saw Donnie Darko the other day. Started out like some sort of high school flick. Ended up like nothing else. Big positive surprise. Gave me a bad dream the very same night! Spooky. Sort of twists your perception/mind.

Love as a Theme in Bukowski's Poetry

People don't need love... Good thread this is. Cudos to all contributing. But be warned! I feel like taking a ramble on the subject... A theme running thru the movie Factotum seems to be a focus on Bukowski's own personal philosophy. I'm thinking about the lines in the breakup-scene with...

I'm sure Buk would have liked the opening line to this song: 9. Dan Bern - Tiger Woods

    2 Flies

A poet is a person who consciously lets his subconsciousthoughts roam freely. He then consciously structures the result on paper, and hey presto! there's the poem. Subconsciousness, on its own, will get you nowhere...

    Will it make my iPod?

Anybody remember Kevin Coyne? He had an insane, lunitic edge to his songs that I'm sure Buk would have related to. Check out this song's lyrics. 12. Kevin Coyne - Blame it on the Night His stuff is hard to find, but things are getting better thanks to the wonders of the net.

African Underground: Democracy in Dakar Saw this documentary last week. Its all about the Hip-Hop scene in Senegal. Made me think of reggae & Kingston & Jamaica. Not that I know that much about reggae & Kingston & Jamaica. Plenty of good music there though. Its interesting when one music-form...

    Graphic Novels

I like the Bone books. Sort of a cross between the Marx Bros. & Tolkien. Jeff Smith has a clean line with a simple naivistic touch.

Thanks for the tips. Just what I needed to know. Good thing the dollar exchange rate over here is fairly low at the moment! ;)

Hamsun's Hunger: Just saw the Danish/Swedish/Norwegian co-production of Hunger from 1966. Its been re-released on DVD recently. This has to be one of the best film-adaptions of a novel I have ever seen. Its also one of the best B&W movies I've ever seen. Wonder IF Buk ever saw it - living in LA...

Numbered & signed War All The Time & Barfly

An acquaintance here in Norway wants to sell the two books mentioned in the title of this thread. It seems he found them in the student bookshop here in Norway back when they first were published. Didn't know that Black Sparrow sent out numbered & signed editions to shops. Maybe they just did it...

    Will it make my iPod?

And now for something completely different... I digi-literally stumbled over the following track. A friend informs me the language is North-African Arabic. That's all I now. Slick, Popsy, new-agy sound, I'll agree. But it still sounds sort of fresh, different and new all the same... 5. Unknown...

    Portions From a Wine-Stained Notebook

I got mine today. It was in perfect condition. Here's how I did it: I just ordered the hardcover edition at the local university book shop. They, and City Lights, did the rest. That's all. No extra postage, pre-payment or anything. It was a gamble that paid of. :D But hey! I notice you...

Seen any good movies lately? - Films you MUST see

I saw Dennis Potter's TV-play "Brimstone and Treacle" on DVD last night. Frightening & fascinating stuff. This film was so controversial in its day that it was banned by the BBC for 11 years. It starts out with a quote from Kierkegaard that sounds like something right out of the Bukowski Tapes...

Read books on your mobile phone

The literature-industry, like the music-industry, was already fucked up before MP3s, iPods & Kindles came around. I think they both need a shake-up. I'm all for it. The film-industry is also set for a fall. As for literature without books & paper: maybe paper has dominated the scene too long...
