This sentence is all wrong. Movie-making is NOT about translating a writing style. It?s about making your own style, on the screen. A weak director just translates ? maybe this is Barfly?s weakness? Take Hitchcock, when he made a book into a movie you could barely recognize the book afterwards...

Wonder about the title. Did Buk live that close to Hollywood?

I've got this Buk-quote (I think) lodged in my memory, but I just can't pinpoint the poem it comes from. In it a mouse (rat?) climbs up Buk's dresser (or somesuch) next to his bed and they both eye each other resulting in this: caught together and awkward in that way Its funny with lines...

Anyone ever see... ...Oliver Stone's film "Commandante"? Its a portrait of Castro. Pretty interesting. If anything Castro is, for better or for worse, a living legend and has walked thru the fire in his own brave way. One good scene: Stone asks Castro if he ever sees a shrink and C answers...

But Bukowski was the master og this type of poem: I compared these poems once, in something I wrote (academic). Carver's is from 83, Buk's from 81. Go figure. Carver commented it thus: In Fires, I even dedicated a poem to him. It's titled "You Don't Know What Love Is." It's kind of the story...
