    King of Flash Fiction?

Here's a super-short flash by Hemingway: "For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn."

    King of Flash Fiction?

I recently came across the term "Flash Fiction" and it seems to me that Buk should be considered a master of this type of story. Here's what Vestal Review writes about the term: [...] devoted to what we consider an underrepresented type of fiction: flash (or short-short) stories. A good...

Factotum vs. Barfly/Best Actor to Play an Older Buk

This sentence is all wrong. Movie-making is NOT about translating a writing style. It?s about making your own style, on the screen. A weak director just translates ? maybe this is Barfly?s weakness? Take Hitchcock, when he made a book into a movie you could barely recognize the book afterwards...

    275 steps from Hollywood

Wonder about the title. Did Buk live that close to Hollywood?

Let me go out on a limb... I think removing lines 3 & 16 would improve this poem...

The Man With The Beautiful Eyes

Thanks Charlie. Films like this really bring out the power of Buk's narrative poems.

    Do you know this quote?

Yeah, I realize its a long shot. Would be nice if someone could pinpoint it though Maybe we could expand this thread to the following: Which poem-lines are stuck in your head and have virtually become part of your daily vocabulary? Here's another one of mine: it's not the large things...

    Do you know this quote?

I've got this Buk-quote (I think) lodged in my memory, but I just can't pinpoint the poem it comes from. In it a mouse (rat?) climbs up Buk's dresser (or somesuch) next to his bed and they both eye each other resulting in this: caught together and awkward in that way Its funny with lines...

    Fidel Castro also reads Bukowski

Anyone ever see... ...Oliver Stone's film "Commandante"? Its a portrait of Castro. Pretty interesting. If anything Castro is, for better or for worse, a living legend and has walked thru the fire in his own brave way. One good scene: Stone asks Castro if he ever sees a shrink and C answers...

You Don't Know What Love Is (an evening with Charles Bukowski) by Raymond Carver

But Bukowski was the master og this type of poem: I compared these poems once, in something I wrote (academic). Carver's is from 83, Buk's from 81. Go figure. Carver commented it thus: In Fires, I even dedicated a poem to him. It's titled "You Don't Know What Love Is." It's kind of the story...

Did a quick net-search, to try and find a french site showing the apostrophes episode, without any luck. BUT: it does seem that the incident is included as an extra on the european version of the "Born into this" DVD. Looks like its been available since september: BUKOWSKI : BORN INTO THIS...

    Dispelling Bukowski's myths

Its a kind of joke over here. Economic & cultural (TV) colonialism! I moved here, from California, in 72. No shopping malls, 1 TV channel & 1 radio channel with no commercials or American sitcoms, no baseball caps, no traffic, no crime, clean water, no poverty. Ppl didn't lock their doors...

    Dispelling Bukowski's myths

Only one problem - its written in Norwegian. Though it looks like Norway IS turning into the 51st american state, the official language is still "norsk". As long as it lasts... And on being a male chauvenist: how about this quote from the 1972-interview!: What do you feel about...

    Dispelling Bukowski's myths

I was older when I discovered Buk. 25? 26? Something like that. The "myth" never grabbed me. The myth says he writes about drinking and fucking. How many poems are about that? Plenty of poems go against the myth. Take "kaakkaa and other immolations" from The days run.... There's incredible...
