    Aspies

I'm not sure about mental patients, but people with disorders like autism and ADHD have difficulty processing sensory information. There is a disconnect between the information the body receives and how the brain interprets it. While a neurotypical person may perceive mushy clay and slimy paint...

    Aspies

I completely agree. These kids are definitely not broken. They do not need fixing (a la Jenny McCarthy and her crusade to "cure" autism). Really, it is about building acceptance by others and developing coping strategies for the kids in question. Some of the kids I teach can do amazing things...

    Aspies

I teach children with special needs for a living, including (obviously) kids on the autism spectrum. I agree that kids are being diagnosed at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, without a diagnosis services are not accessible. Parents with kids on the border are pushing for diagnosis so they can...

    Norton Bukowski quote

Thank you David. This clears up the contradictory online information. And, I'm also quite impressed with the volume of poetry included by the literary giant. Indeed, his work should be included in many more anthologies.

    Norton Bukowski quote

Confusing for sure. I want to get my hands on the poem that quotes Bukowski's mockingbird without having to scour used bookstores for old copies of Norton Anthologies. You'd think the title and author would be available somewhere online, if not the poem itself. Thanks for your help.

    Norton Bukowski quote

Thank you DiB, but I mean the non-Bukowski poem in which "the mockingbird" is quoted. Sorry for being unclear.

    Norton Bukowski quote

The Norton Anthology published a poem (1994) that quoted from "the mockingbird". Does anyone have that poem?

Feminist criticism - real, actual, recorded in black & white?

Feminist criticism - real, actual, recorded in black & white?

This essay is scary. I don't know for sure, but it reads like it was written by a fourth year undergraduate student or an uninterested MA student. Very surface level claims and support imo.

completion and publishing of 'post office' as requested

Thank you bospress and hank solo for pointing out the obvious, but I was indeed asking about the unnamed publication that mjp picked up on. I will try to make myself more clear in the future.:wb: Thank you mjp for the helpful ( if somewhat condescending) link. :)

Which publication are you referring to here?

    Looking for a short poem

Where do you find this stuff, mjp? This is an amazing and beautiful poem. I can't believe it was so savagely edited into the shorter version.

    reviews at time of publication

I'm really curious what people (mainstream, I guess) thought of CB's work when first published. Does anyone here know of reviews or have personal anecdotes about this?

need the source of two quotes

If I thought myself better than people on this forum I wouldn't be soliciting advice, feedback and resources much less sticking around here. Sorry to have inadvertently crashed your party.

need the source of two quotes

This "I'm more antagonistic than thou" shtick is getting old, no? Do you all write poetry with the word "fuck" in it a lot too?

    New Bukowski blog

Dora, you are right. There are some seriously muddy waters when one starts to look at a writer's art off the page, as well as on it. Where do we draw the line between artist as performer and artist as person. Like I've set out, I'm not interested in doing an MRP on Bukowski's life. There is...

    New Bukowski blog

I don't understand the grammar in the latter half of your comment. To when does the "until" refer? if I've, apparently, already claimed nothing? Awkward.

    New Bukowski blog

My claim is that Bukowski's fictional characters are hypermasculine in the texts I'm discussing. His real life poetic performance abjects literary celebrity in quite a different way. I can bend a whole lotta things. You are right, my argument does not encompass Bukowski's long term relationship...

Sources for male to male violence in B

Damn, this is a time when I wish I didn't skip so much in grade 10 French class. No, I'm horrible at French. Never took more credits than the minimum required in high school. It might be worth keeping in mind though, I've got plenty of French speaking friends.

    New Bukowski blog

His poetic performance fits into the abjection piece; affronting audiences with insults, foul language and drinking rather than conforming to the accepted social conventions and literary elitism of an invited speaker. I think that meaning breaks down for Bukowski's fictional characters when they...

    New Bukowski blog

Ha! Exactly. That's where I'm going. Bukowski flips traditional models of human social relationships on their head, calling their value into question and offering alternative systems instead. Even if Bukowski was still alive today to ask, you would still struggle to get a true reflection of...

Feminist criticism - real, actual, recorded in black & white?

I like your Phd idea, sounds great. I'm starting my MRP on Bukowski right now and also looking for the elusive band of feminists who bashed him so sorely. If I find anything, I will send it your way. Best of luck!

Sources for male to male violence in B

    What? That's crazy. More details!

Sources for male to male violence in B

I'm looking for critical (or uncritical) sources on male to male violence in CB's work. Anybody know of anything? So many bar brawls and hostility, someone has to have written about it at some point.
