it's called "Lost Classics- Writers on Books Loved and Lost" (edited by ondaatje, redhill, spalding, and spalding), and it's a collection of short essays. each essay is about a different little-known book that the author likes, how he or she found it, and why it's important to him or her. it's pretty easy to read, and the essays are short and non-academic, so it stays pretty lively. highly recommended. i got it for $3 on abebooks.com.
