Can someone tell me if this is a real quote? And if so, where did it come from?

"Drink from the well of yourself and begin again."

Well, it's from a poem called "mind and heart," but it's from a book that John Martin shat all over (Come On In!!!!!!), so I'll look and see if we have a manuscript.

cry not for me.

grieve not for me.

read
what I’ve written
then
forget it
all.

drink from the well
of your self
and begin
again.

Database says the real title is "If You Want Justice, Take The Knife," and the real ending goes like so:

cry not for me
but for tears

grieve not for me
but for grief

read
what I’ve written
then
forget it:

memory is a
trap: look to the walls
and begin
again.

That makes my blood boil! Completely different poem.
(...but for tears, but for grief...) those parts need to be in there too. Those are amazing.

Gahhhhh!!!!
And how does Martin come off with that ending that means nothing of the original?!

another quote showed up , "there is only one lesson life is trying to teach us - shut the fuck up and enjoy the view."
This sounds so wrong.

True. These two lines are essential.
Without them the two other lines are weak and come off as self-pity.
With them, the whole thing extends to a general agony everywhere.

This is one of Martins finest butcher-jobs he's made.

If you drink from the well of yourself, you'll taste piss, blood, and fear. If you drink from the well of a woman, you'll taste anger, lies, and regret. Pick your poison.
