Bukowski was always saying bad things about Mailer, it makes me lose some respect for him as an author that he didn't respect Mailer. I have a hard time choosing between the two for who was the best author of the twentieth century. What do you think?

Don't you think that basing your respect for an artist on anything other than their work is a bit misguided?

I assume you base your respect for Mailer on his work, considering what a tremendous prick he could be in his personal life. Why hold Bukowski to a different standard?

Anyway, Bukowski talked shit about a lot of people he respected. You really have no idea whether he respected Mailer or not.
