This is a different "Green" than the one in "War All the Time" so I think both may be first appearances. However, I've read several poems about the old couple, so it's possible "Green" was renamed. I'm sure Detective Zobraks will let me know.

Also including a letter from Buk to Tom McNamara and a letter from Norse to McNamara since he mentions Buk's writing and shows off his bitchiness in general.

Although no scan, Blazek mentions he is working on a Buk letter book, so you can add that one to all the others who were doing one at the time. He had just moved to California and was starting to publish Open Skull, so I guess letters were on his brain at that point.

"ounce upon ounce of chickenshit darkness falls upon me
in my chickenshit room
when I really want to stretch like Ponce deLeon
across the cunt of the
sun"

"and everywhere the sky looked like a suit I couldn't buy"

What lines :oo

Me neither.
I've read several poems about the old couple
Yeah, they (the same Landlord and Landlady, the Crottys) feature in a few other poems: My Landlady and My Landlord (Mockingbird Wish Me Luck), Buffalo Bill (The Rooming House Madrigals), Share the Pain (Open All Night), but neither of those is a retitled Green.

Detective Zobraks over and out.

They also show up in "my worst rejection slip" in Bone Palace Ballet:

there was a knock
on my door.
it was my landlady.
she was already
red-faced with
booze.
"o.k.," she said,
"I’ve got twelve
quarts of
Eastside in
the refrigerator.
you comin’
down?"
"later..."
"you better come
down, you horny old son-of-a-bitch!"
"oh, I will..."
then she was
gone.
And in "rape" in one of the Machinegun books and What Matters Most:

and then my landlady in the back
came out and we went
over to her place
where we drank two quarts of Eastside beer
one after the other
while her old man
in a white torn undershirt
his head resting on the table
slept peacefully.
she talked about
Catholicism
(she went to mass every Sunday)
and the horrors of
hemorrhoids and gallstones
(and operations for same)
and in between we sang songs
from the 30’s,
Bing Crosby songs and the like,
and when I left there at
5 a.m.

And in More Notes of a Dirty Old Man:

Mrs. Crotty would set a full quart of Eastside in front of me. We’d drink from early evening until 3 or 4 in the morning. Most of the nights were the same. We’d sing the old songs, songs of the twenties and thirties.
We had our Eastside drunk, sang songs. Mr Crotty passed out and I kissed Mrs. Crotty.

This message has been brought to you by Eastside beer. Eastside, when you need a little help working up the courage to kiss the landlord's wife, reach for a cold quart of Eastside!

what images!
the picture gets to be so clear as if you're there in that room...

I can remember him drinking with his landlords...
his landlord's head falling backwards and front and that line 'a great empty globe of confused complaint'

thanks Pogue, for sharing!
and mjp, for the great photos.

Yeah, those pics are great. I love the designs esp the funky shaped can. And the quart bottle reminds me of my grandfather. He didn't drink that brand. It just looks like something he would have. More like this shit
