RIP George Carlin

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71.

Carlin, who had a history of heart problems, died at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT) after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters.

Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine about seven dirty words you could not say on television. A regulatory battle over a radio broadcast of his "Filthy Words" routine ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

And also according to Reuters this evening, Amy Winehouse has been hospitalized with emphysema. She only has 70% lung capacity. How much fuckin' crack and cigarettes do you have to smoke to get chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at 24? Even Buk would be ashamed of her.

And even more fucked up shit, tonight, Cody's Books has closed the fuck down:

Ross said that "when Cody's was doing quite well, independent stores had 40 to 50 percent of the market. Now they're down to about 3 percent of the market. In the late 1980s and into 1990, on a good Saturday Cody's on Telegraph Avenue would do $30,000 in business. More recently, a typical Saturday would bring $10,000 worth. The business declined by two-thirds. Costs were up, and sales were down."
You can read all about it at the SF Chron.

Well. There goes his chances to be president of the united states.

Hard to feel sorry for this one.
Not that she needs my pity.

Silly bugga.

I like how two weeks ago I was supposed to go see him ((or considering go to see him)) in Vegas, but my brother got lazy and we never went.

I will regret that forever.

I just heard on the local nightly news that George Carlin has recieved the first posthumus, Mark Twain Award for American Humor. Carlin said it was the one comedy award he respected most.
It was awarded to him not long before he passed away. He died this past June, 2008. CRB:)

When Carlin died this past summer,
a friend sent me this classic routine
by the master himself:

MY NEXT LIFE
By George Carlin

I want to live my next life backwards: You start out dead and get that out of the way. Then you wake up in a nursing home feeling better everyday. Then you get kicked out for being too healthy. Enjoy your retirement and collect your pension. Then when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work 40 years until you're too young to work. You get ready for High School: drink alcohol, party, and you're generally promiscuous. Then you go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, and you have no responsibilities. Then you become a baby, and then... You spend your last 9 months floating peacefully in luxury, in Spa-like conditions - central heating, room service on tap, and...then...

You finish off as an orgasm. I rest my case.

I couldn't agree more :)

I was never a huge fan of George Carlin but a friend of mine burned me a copy of It's All Bullshit And It's All Bad For You. I believe it's an HBO special he did a couple of years before he died. I had some good laughs watching it. Check it out if you can.
