Inside the front cover is a square laid-in card with a mandala-like design..

Was this suppose to be included in FIRE STATION?! (2nd scan, halfway down)
I've never seen this before and I don't 'get' the relation to the book...
Doesn't look very well done or good for that matter.

Hi,
If both of Marvin's copies had this card laid in, but it is not mentioned anywhere then there are two possible scenarios that I can think of:

1) The publisher (or Bukowski) laid those into his copies only, knowing that Marvin would dig them.
2) They were included in many copies, but have since fallen out (highly unlikely).

There are some collectors on this forum with DAMN fine collections. Have you seen this? I have had 3 or 4 copies at various times and have never seen this mandala card...

This card is also news to me. I do not believe it to be part of the original print run and was, in fact, something that was laid in after the fact. I've never come across one and I think at this point in my collecting career I would have at least heard about it.
