Dear Forum Members,
Since I am the forum's Ambassador from North Carolina, I feel compelled to respond to the recent HB2 legislation passed by the North Carolina legislature and signed by our beloved governor.

The bill was a direct reaction to the city of Charlotte's passage of a non-discriminatory ordinance -- and in the process the state legislature created a whole new level of discrimination.

I live in Charlotte and it's a pretty open-minded city, mainly because people have been moving here from the rust belt for the past 20 years. The city voted for Obama twice and we held the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

So, it sucks that we'll be punished with the rest of North Carolina because we were trying to do the right thing.

But there are a lot of people here that are willing to take the backlash because we know the entire state needs to feel the pain for this thing to get turned around and never happen again.

The last throes of those that are seeing their way of life dying....

And by "their way of life" I mean controlling other people's way of life...

As annoying as the younger generation can be, they are very accepting of different lifestyles and are very liberal, so they will really shape the future on the right direction.

That's what I thought was going to happen when I was a young person in the 60s and 70s.

But what actually happened is most of my peers turned into their parents. Then their children turned into them.

So I don't know. We'll swing liberal and free again, then we'll swing conservative again, and that will repeat until there's no one left to swing. The idea that we'll ever become a liberal country, or a country that cares about anything but success and WINNING and domination and personal profit seems far fetched.

Society is becoming ever more passive. Social issues aren't issues, they're items for conversation. There is no such thing as a liberal or a conservative, just two masks to wear to appeal to the peers directly in front of you. Socialism is the next step for Western societies, only because of unimaginative people who'd rather have the grand sum dictate their lives, rather than themselves. Just my opinion.

You have a black president and Ellen is legally married as are many more wonderful couples raising equally wonderful kids. We're winning. Thats what pisses them off. Not as fast as we all would like but forward none the less. I love Canada but give me the U.S any day of the week for it's willingness to stand up for an opinion especially those with which I disagree most.

Fair question too. Religion is a myth and all that follows from this myth while it is heart felt is untrue, I wish someone would stand up and say "You know this Adam and Eve thing is just not true and since it's not true and since you are still wonderful people how do we move forward? The Dalai Lama invites science-thats cool. The pope seems to be walking in his shadow to a degree-thats cool too. Those of us who embrace science have to find a way to embrace those that have faith in that which we know is untrue or we are just repeating their error. I'm watching the Ken Burn Jazz series tonight. The Ellington episode. Music seems to do what politics cannot. Thats a good place to start-just ask baby metal!!

unfortunately, you're right.
That's the way it'll always be. Things will "swing" better from time to time, just to swing back to oppression of freedom again. Humanity Never had it from the beginning.

No, things have progressed.There will always be short lived swings from liberal to repressive, including wars and conflicts, but things move forward and gains in human rights (and responsibilities) are not lost.
The HB2 anachronisitc legislation has only served to highlight that.

Not sure where all the moral christian folks there will get their tranny sex and scat porn if others follow suit.
