What are you listening to? The world really needs to know. Volume 8

Cold Blue Steel Sweet Fire
words and music Joni Mitchell

Cold blue steel out of money
One eye for the beat police
Sweet fire calling
"You can't deny me
Now you know what you need"
Underneath the jungle gym
Hollow-grey-fire-escape-thief
Looking for sweet fire
Shadow of Lady Release
"Come with me
I know the way" she says
"It's down, down, down the dark ladder
Do you want to contact somebody first
Leave someone a letter
You can come now
Or you can come later"
A wristwatch, a ring, a downstairs screamer
Edgy-black cracks of the sky
"Pin-cushion-prick-
Fix this poor bad dreamer!"
"Money" cold shadows reply
Pawnshops crisscrossed and padlocked
Corridors spit on prayers and pleas
Sparks fly up from sweet fire
Black soot of Lady Release
"Come with me
I know the way" she says
"It's down, down, down the dark ladder
Do you wanna…

Yes, she is extremely hyped. Yes, I don't like all her songs. But some I do.

Now, Here's what I think is absolutely gorgeous:

I don't think I've ever seen two lefties in the same group.

And somehow I think I know what that sounds like without listening to it...

I think about Amy Winehouse quite a bit.

I loved her two proper studio albums, but she was still reacting to (against?) her influences.

Who knows what was to come, maybe a long fizzle to Vegas shows and cruise ship headlining. Whatever. We should all fail so well.

That’s weird. Just today I had the radio and they played one of her hits and I was thinking "Hey, maybe I should listen to some of her other stuff."

That seems unlikely, doesn't it.

I wasn't all that familiar with her or her music, just the scandalous stuff that was reported everywhere. But I liked the documentary I saw about her a couple months ago.

Imagine how different the music world would be without heroin and all the other drugs that killed or ruined so many musicians.

This is for a dear friend who knows:
Antony and the Johnsons: BIRD GEHRL

note:
I LOVED this song (and its insides) for a Long time.
Way Long before the latest news here.
