Five books. (1 Viewer)

If you could read only 5 books, for the rest of your life what would they be? and why ?

I think mine would be.
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
Prayers For Rain by Dennis Lehane
Post Office by well if you don't know why are you here
Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut

Dennis Lehane was the reason i started reading.
American Psycho, because it left me in awe but disgusted at the same time.
Slaughterhouse 5 is just a brilliant book, that i think i could read over and over and not get bored.
Fight Club just because it's a favourite of mine.

1. Ask the Dust by John Fante
2. Sandman by Neil Gaiman (if I can't take a SERIES of books, I'd just go with American Gods, also by Gaiman)
3. Pleasures of the Damned by Bukowski
4. Lamb by Christopher Moore
5. The Instructions by Adam Levin

The good news (ha!) is that you could have multiple different translations... Help you out of any sort of trouble you might have for the rest of your life...

Although, volume 3 Best of Hustler is no Volume 12... Just sayin'.

1. How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
2. Britney Spears: Little Girl Lost by Christopher Heard
3. The Rough Guide to Southwest USA by Greg Ward
4. Why Me?: The Sammy Davis, Jr. Story by Sammy Davis
5. Bug Death - S.E. Hinton (with Timothy White)

CATCHER IN THE RYE by j.d.salinger
FACTOTUM by charles bukowski
TRAINSPOTTING by irvine welsh
TOUGH GUYS DONT DANCE by norman mailer
A SCANNER DARKLY by philip k dick

1. The Stranger by Albert Camus
2. Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut
3. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
4. Ham on Rye by Charles Bukowski
5. The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger

Wow 2 years on and a lot of books read.
My updated list would look something like this
1. Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
2.The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
3.1984 by George Orwell
4.Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut
5. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K Dick

Women
Ham on Rye
Arthur Rex by T. Burger
The Dead Zone by S. King
Grendel by J. Gardner

Torn on Vonnegut... I want to include Deadeye Dick, but I know I won't read it again. It will spend eternity on the island as a fat beer coaster.

P. K. Dick's DADOES is brilliant, but like W. Burrow's Naked Lunch, I know I won't read it enough to place on the list for me.

That said, I have three more of Hank's (R.I.P.) to read, so that the might change soon, anyway...

Magic Mountain, Thomas Mann
Under the Volcano, Malcolm Lowry
A Confederacy of Dunces, John Kennedy O'Toole
Collected Stories of Lydia Davis
What Matters Most is How Well You Walk Through the Fire, Bukowski
