Kurt Vonnegut, Counterculture's Novelist, Dies

Kurt Vonnegut's dark comic talent and urgent moral vision caught the temper of his times. He was 84.

I read somewhere that he received brain damage from a fall in his place in Manhattan and was in the hospital over it. So I guess it wasnt old age entirely. A wonderful writer. Although since his output had lessened significantly since the early 90's, we were able to get used to his silence. We'll miss him.

one of the first writers I became obsessive about as a teenager.
he'll be missed.

Have you seen the movie 'Breakfast of Champions' after his novel?
Starring Bruce Willis and Nick Nolte.
Good movie, when in a personal crizis and slightly drunk. Surrealistic, sarcastic, funny, serious...
(and the character of Kilgore Trout is done so much Bukowski-like in a way...)

Man its been a year already... Crazy. Any news on that new book there? Sounds interesting, but don't have the time to read it now.

I have a preview edition; mostly previously published anti-war pieces, including the famous Dresden bombing essay. Good intro by his son. Yes, it was brain damage from a fall, as his son points out, that "scrambled his brains" and ultimately led to his demise.
