Loneliness: Nine Panel Grid No. 2 August 1994 (1 Viewer)

Pogue Mahone

Officials say drugs may have played a part
This is a pretty unique comic book because Black Sparrow actually gave permission to the publisher to reprint/adapt Bukowski’s short story “Loneliness” from South of No North.

(Sorry for all the images -- I’m still trying to figure out how to make PDFs with my new scanner.)

I made them into a pdf but the size is the same, if that's what you were concerned about.

Those drawings...I, uh...yeah.

i know! i can't decide whether i like them or not.

i like the crudeness of them. there's something about them that works...for me, anyways.

Intentional crudeness or naivete has its charm. When there's some rhythm or feeling or flow (or some other words that probably have nothing to do with drawing) behind it. I'm not charmed by this.

But other people must like it, he seems to be a known comic artist.

The drawings definitely make it feel depressing rather than the slightest bit funny. They make it seem... Lonely.
