Not Usually A Joiner

Hello, all — I’ve liked Bukowski’s writing for a long time, grew up in Los Angeles/Long Beach. I am not a poet or academic, just drawn to this site and memories of Long Beach’s literary scene a long time ago (G. Locklin and CSULB poets, Chelsea and other bookstores, Mercury Art Ctr etc etc). I am just old enough to have seen Bukowski drinking in a bar in LB, I think, around 1985. But If I am wrong about that please don’t tell me.

Hello EDeKantor. Welcome! I share some of the same background as you do. I lived in Long Beach, am a poet and hung out with that crowd, drank beer with Gerry Locklin at the 49er bar, read at the Chelsea Bookstore and other venues, during the period 1969 to 1973, and then again 1978 to 1983. I was around Bukowski a number of times, saw him read, also at parties, at the 49er. This is a good site. Tons of detailed information about Bukowski, his work, his life. It's fairly quiet these days. Well worth exploring. My real name is David Barker.
