YouTube Video - Dinosauria, We (1 Viewer)

Not sure if it fits here but..

Hi. I'm fond of cinema and stuff, and discovered Bukowski not so long ago. By the way, I'm glad to have found this forum, a lot of stuff posted here is amazing.

So I wanted to do a little video with a poem he read, because i felt really moved the first time I listened to it (i mean, the first time in particular).

Here it is :
I'm not sure if homemade stuff is welcomed here but well I've made it so I thought I'd share it with you. At least it was cool to make it.

Hope you enjoy the video!

I thought that it was well made, BUT unnecessary. Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh, but his words stand on their own without any help. Images make the words (which are open to interpretation) solid based on the filmmakers vision. The viewer cannot make their own vision because it has been created for them.

Still, the images were interesting as was the music. It was well made.

Ha ha! That was posted by MommyXXX a porn star. of her other clips.

So I wonder who posts her YouTubes? Maybe lou4lou is making money by generating hits on these little webisodes.

I agree with you Bill, Bukowski's word don't need anything and a movie only gives the own vision of its maker. As I posted it on this board, I was sure you had already read the poem or heard it, so obviously I don't intend to impose my vision of it. But that is my own particular vision of the poem, what I felt while reading or listening to it, and this is what I wanted to share with the viewer. I'm glad everytime I see a video, or painting, or anything related to reading materials I like, such as this poem, made by somebody who liked the book/poem/etc as much as me.
And I guess the fact that the vision belongs to the maker is the case everytime someone makes a film adaptation of a book. Not all books, okay, but some adaptations are from books very well written and that have a sake in its very composition, not to talk about the story. But I'll just bet you don't like adaptations then :p Anyway thanks for your comment.

Sometimes that is true. I really love some movies. Barfly is a movie that I love. Still, I know that most people then think that Bukowski looked like Mickey Rourke and that Jane looked like Faye Dunnaway.

Where this is different with Bukowski is that he writes so much as pseudo-auto biography that I have a hard time picturing anyone but Bukowski, even when he is writing as Chinaski.

In the end, I'd rather picture Chinaski as Mickey Rourke than as Matt Dillon...

man, its like deja vu all over again......

a deja vu is only a re-arranging of the matrix you know.

hey lou,
I watched through the first quarter and didn't find it bad.
Your conclusion though ("I'll just bet you don't like adaptations then") was right: in general, this kinda things isn't very popular here.

I, for myself, like them.
As I like the genral idea of making movies out of books (The Godfather, Zefirellis Hamlet) or music out of paintings (Rachmaninow: The Dead-island) or poems out of a war (Trakl: Grodek), etc.

it's common enough: fighting over personal tastes is useless.

The music is simply horrible.
Horrible.
There's something about videos.
There's something about the sense of sight.
When you're looking at pictures & films (tv, internet) your thoughts get pacified.
The music does the same thing.
Buk's words are supposed to make you think (I think),
not slop around in some vague bog of feelings and self-pity and fear.

Now wake up
take stock of the situation
and get on with your life!

It's funny that these finger painting collage kitties always end up comparing their rickety little YouTube squaks to film adaptations of books. This is similar behavior to The Rebel: You can't possibly dislike what I do, there must be something else bothering you!

No, it's you.

Haha :) I've no intention to compare my stuff to any movie, actually if you didn't act like a butthurt little fanboy, you'd have seen that we were talking about this in general, not about my video specifically.

@Roni : Yep, i think I get that :p And it's quite understandable actually.

Haha, I have been coming to the forum for a few years, only registered last year, but it certainly seems lately, there are a ton of these videos popping up on the forum! They certainly make for interesting forum threads once everyone starts commenting on them. I, as of yet have not seen one. Maybe today after work, I'll finally click on one.

well they seem to like your's a little more than mine, I salute you Sir. But I can kind of see why they're pissed off with being pestered with youtube videos now.

Pestered: a word my parents used quite a bit.

Instead of showing the world your musical and photographic interpretation of Bukowski's perfectly good stand on their own poems why not just make some personal comments or reflections of his work?
Also, there is nothing wrong with making a movie based on one of his poems. He would have liked that too. With a hydrogen bomb sequence would work in that as well.

For what it's worth, I thought the music matched up pretty well.
This is the only homemade Buk video thingy I've bothered to watch, and I have a feeling this is as good as it gets.

Take that however you want. Just [STRIKE]my nose[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]my asshole[/STRIKE], my opinion.....

@yossari : well thanks, I like yours too

@Gerard K : You make a point here, but i'm not good at expressing or explaining things directly in writings.. Thought i would do a video instead.

@number6horse : thank you too I guess, my nose appreciates !

Lou?
Why did you pull the video? It was worth leaving up wasn't it?I just found the picture of the girl with the poem on her arm that was placed in your video. Do you know her?

cute girl, BUT, what is going to happen when those words start to blur over time. At some point it will look a mass of gobbledegook....

Apparently her name is Leah. Besides changing the line breaks, she also changed the gender of some of the words in the poem...

Bill

Sorry I had to reupload it, it automatically "stopped" at the beggining for some reason.

Here it is :
I don't know this girl, what do you mean "placed in my video" ?

See you
