    it began as a mistake

was just thinking of buks first novel. autobiographical. everyone's one is that they always say, but 'it began as a mistake.' hah. my first reading buk began as one. kind of preceding beers to ensue post ham on rye. i also think buk may have been a bit crazy, or more than. i also saw somewhere...

    buddist retreat

"I'm full of the best intentions." I like that. How is it going now, in Jul? Buk did meditate for at least some time, from an interview I found w/his wife, Linda. She said something like she didn't think he ever experienced that sort of peace. Makes one think. I wish I would get back into...

why is buk always sort of an intentional 'incidental' when mentioned?

almost as though it's either too hip or expected, or unhip or (academically) taboo to mention him. it's always something like (and i'm no literary...), "... and ... Burroughs, Thompson, and, incidentally, that Buk character." makes me kind of proud almost.

    What's "style"?

Not the poem, necessarily. Buk always brings up "style", and I was just wondering what's your take on what he meant. Or better, what's style to you? My take, and a hazy one, is style's the right proportion of grace and, -- another buk "term" .. -- class. I don't know if you were into...

    Best Bukowski Biography

Hello. I was wondering if someone could tell me what biography on Bukowski is the best one. It's always so interesting to read tales that give some perspective on the man behind the myth -- I read, for example, how he never went to the "rich" high school like he wrote in Ham on Rye, but the one...

    My Bukowski Quiz

Thanks for the post! To "Purple Stickpin", yeah, I got Jan. Although maybe that's the reason no one is getting 100? Is it Jan or Jane, because my answer is Jan. Ques 5 should've been worded better. Paul Giamatti said in Sideways he thought Bukowski wrote that line. It kind of doesn't...

    My Bukowski Quiz

Hmm, which questions aren't verified? I got the questions from things I saw or read Buk or his people say. Like, one interesting thing I was going to put in was from an interview I read of his wife, with Mike Watts. She said that toward the end, he got into meditation. I don't know if the...

    Poem about father

Can you find it or no? Yeah, you can find archives - like the one on this site - that have the title underlined, but clicking on it doesn't bring you to the actual poem.

    Poem about father

Great. Do you know where I could get a copy of it online? I really don't want to drive to the library for it, and need it for something I'm writing about Buk. sah

    Poem about father

Can someone tell me the name of this poem, in Neeli Cherkovski's biography, Bukowski: A Life, where Buk writes a poem about his father's death? I can't really remember, but it was something about him visiting his father's house to collect or get rid of his things, and I think acknowledging their...

    Interesting Linda King Story

Awesome, Bernard. Though little did she know ... MJP, whoops! The site it more personable though. And there's the pic of Linda, that has been seen a billion times. For more on Buk, I found this site in google books, Bukowski In Pictures, that is really great. If you type that in at...

    Interesting Linda King Story

Hello. Just found this article or short story (or journal entry?) by Bukowki former lover Linda King. Thought it was pretty interesting, especially since I'm reading Women again. Thought I'd post the link here for comments, posterity (?), whatever: http://lindakingarts.com/bukowski.htm...

Hey. So really, what other books

huh? I read some Hunter Thompson. I don't know why, but after a little while I just got bored. I don't even remember why, but I can recall thinking it didn't seem to catch on for a reason similar to why some of the other beats didn't. I read Bukowski before reading any of the beats, so...
