Relevant cultural sites to visit for Australian pilgrim

Well, I emailed the tour company and they're not running any when I'm in town anyway - that solves that. I'll be at the mercy of the buses, or maybe I'll rent a bike. Thanks for the great advice Gerard :)

Relevant cultural sites to visit for Australian pilgrim

It seems like it could be a good way to see a lot in a short period of time without my own car, and maybe meet some like-minded people. Still definitely open to suggestion :)

Relevant cultural sites to visit for Australian pilgrim

Hi all, It's been a little while since I've been on the forum. I'm obsessed and protective of Bukowski - he was all I read from the age of 14 to 21. I'm coming to New York in September for a couple of weeks and LA for a couple/few days. I was hoping you might suggest some relevant cultural...

    Finished Women last night...

regarding 'Women' I love Women - some of Buks funniest and definitely most brutal writing - those headlines are comic gold: "HENRY CHINASKI, MINOR POET..." I've read Women cover to cover probably five times. Something I find is that it has a completely different effect on me each time...

    Bukowski tattoos

Speaking of a Buk handwriting font, my second obsession is Morrissey/The Smiths. I have a downloaded font that someone's made from Moz's handwriting. And my next tattoo is the Black Sparrow.

    tales of ordinary madness

I saw this for the first time earlier this year. I really liked it. It was able to get to a lot of the much dirtier stuff, the short stories, which is my favourite stuff. "The Most Beautiful Woman In Town" is such a beautiful story. I think it was a beautiful film. It disturbed my housemates -...

The one thing that bothered me.

Where's that part in Women... On getting of a plane for a poetry reading: p. 167 of the Virgin 2004 ed. I love that. I think of it often. (Only "semi-autobiographical" of course, but) A great description.

    Bukowski a misogynist?

I find good answers to the women question in Women. It's funny how I react depending on my state of mind. Most times I've read it I think it's hilarious etc. The last time though, after having boy troubles, it at times does disgust me. But that's not his fault - he's just writing about the way...

Long time reader, new time poster

Hi. I'm Tahnee. I signed up a couple of years ago but haven't had the net for a while. I've been reading Bukowski since I was fourteen, and I've found him hard to get past. My dad's been a fan since the 70s and my brothers and sister and I are all disciples. I started with South of No North...

    Haha, obviously.

    Bukowski readings.

A lecturer of mine saw Bukowski read in San Fransisco in the 70s. She said he had the fridge up on the stage and was drinking. She's a big Diane Wakoski fan, has done a lot of work on her, has some beautiful books.

Yeah, someone else told me to read Confederacy of Dunces, haven't yet. That's on my list of things to do when I finish uni

    In which order?

My advice: Start with novels: Ham on Rye, Factotum, Post Office - NOT HOLLYWOOD OR PULP Also short stories: South of No North, Tales of Ordinary Madness, Hot Water Music, The Most Beautiful Woman in Town, and also Notes of a Dirty Old Man. Doesn't matter what order really. You can also read...
