1961 radio show

Looks like there was a radio show prior to the KPFK one in 1962. In the July 1961 letter below, Bukowski says that the first poem is "Hooray Say the Roses." The first poem in the 1962 show was "Prayer For Broken-Handed Lovers."

Time must be taking a toll on me, I had completely forgotten about that old thread talking about the same 1961 radio show. Well, the July 1961 letter confirms that the radio show actually took place and B seems to be proud of it.

Sounds like someone other than Bukowski did the actual reading though. Thanks for the snippet, stranger ;)

I have pictures from that reading event. My mom attended and took pictures/slides. She was good friends with Gael Turnbull and Cid Corman. I have been sort of searching where these pictures might have been taken-- now I know. She noted on the slides: 5-5-61 KPFK

I've been sort of searching off and on for where these pics might have been taken -- all my mom noted on the slides 5-5-61 KPFK and the familiar friends she noted: Gael Turnbull, Cid Corman -- not sure who"Hugo & Paul Rider" are -- or any of the others. She wrote poetry her entire life, made small chap booklets and hung out with the "beat folks" in the late 50's, early 60's. Cid Corman and Gael Turnbull kept in touch with her over the years with letters and copies of their works.

Heartening to read recent activity on this site, which used to be so lively. Yes, understand Anthony Linick, co editor with Don Factor of NOMAD literary journal back then, read the Bukowski poems.There is a little about this in a recent issue of Beat Scene. Was in touch with Anthony who lives in London until about 2 years ago. Not heard from him. Hope he's ok. This reluctance on Bukowski to not read at the radio station puts me in mind of when Barry Miles came to record him for the Beatles Zapple label and Buk couldn't do it with Miles sitting so - he sent him away and did it alone. But you all know this. Am guessing that Anthony Linick is one of the people in the radio station pictures.
