$275 to $330 for a short story in 1970 (1 Viewer)

I just read in a few letters that B. was getting $275 and $330 per story from the skin mags in early 1970. Wasn't that quite a lot of bread back then?
 
Yes.

Considering that that was what he did, write, then add the fact that his stuff was,
probably, two or at most three pages, then you are getting and idea that he was becoming
a name.

That's my take.
 
Yeah, about $1500 in George W. Bush dollars.

Weeklies, tabloids, newspapers, etc. usually pay less than magazines. I think a couple of pages in a mag like that now would probably net you the same pay. Around $1500. A couple of dollars a word.

No way to get rich, that's for sure. ;)
