Hi,
I just heard from him. Seems that he was looking through the forum and ran across my posts. Hopefully he will sign up on the forum. His involvement would answer many questions that many of us "collectors" have about various variant printings, etc. Also of interest is what those two "Deleted" items in the bibliog were....

I'll keep you posted.

Bill

Bill: Yes, I hope he does join up. We could use his expertise...not that some of you on this forum aren't obsessed fanatics. I confess I've never even seen his bibliography, but judging from the little I've hear about it, I want to land a copy some day. It sounds like he's the real "decider" when it comes to bibliographic issues.

yeah I'm just really starting to get into collecting. I need to pick up a copy of his bibliography on abe soon, before the prices start going up. Fifty bucks seems very reasonable to me. Also, I'm sure it would be a sound investment when it comes to Buk collection.

Hi,
It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to purchase rarte books without this book. It is my Bible. Without it, it would be very easy to purchase a second edition that is being sold as a first. Some sellers call books "first edition"" even if it is a second or 30th printing. With the bibliography, you can research to see based on the first edition "points" if it is actually a first edition.

Yes, I would not buy one First Edition Bukowkski book before you buy this..

But that is just my opinion...

Bill

Which is why it never had a paperback release. It was made in one edition for freaks and obsessives only. ;)

i never even thought of purchasing the fancy editions when i was swallowing up the words, not until i happened upon this site, and now those editions are worth more than i can count to.

Which is why it never had a paperback release. It was made in one edition for freaks and obsessives only. ;)

Yes, you are right. Sadly, I have two copies. The deluxe and the trade edition. I think that I am very, very much a freak and obsessive!

Bill

Sad obsessive freak?!?!
Me too.
I have a 1/26 (of course) and a 'reading copy' which has had the shit beaten out of it.

Bill: some of my best friends are freaks and obsessives. Hell, I'm a freak and an obessive. But you're also a brilliant editor (full disclosure: I'm biased; you publish me, but you also publish a bunch of other good writers) a genuis at graphic design, and a gifted printer. Now that I think of it, you're also one of my best friends. And you're a freak and obsessive. Is this a circuilar arguement?

i just picked up the krumhansl book one abe for $50... and i'm kicking myself that i didn't spring for the deluxe edition for $75. i knew i'd want it...

i also grabbed the early bibliography of the black sparrow press, which is pretty cool as well (and usually cheaper than Krumhansl, although not as directly relevant to bukowski).

Do like the rest of us obsessives do and get 'em both!

I have the Black Sparrow Checklist and the Black Sparrow Bibliography. Also, Dorbin is very interesting for the info on the early poems.

I think that being a librarian may have been my true calling....

Bill

and in his biblio the picture of Betting on the Muse is labelled '150d' when it is clearly 150e.

Oh he's gonna love me

The bib

Gents/Gals

I'm finally on board, only took me 20 days or so maybe more since I first started talking to Bottle Bill.

Let's get down and deal with some of these books and more importantly some of the typos and inconsitencies in the bib. I see that a Betting On The Muse pic could be mis-labeled not sure on that one- b/w photo, Don Klein took the pics, I did not edit the pic entries.

However as stated in the preface to the bib "Any errors or omissions are mine and I will be grateful to anyone bringing them to my attention."

These issues and items can certainly be tracked and dealt with to fix the errant information for current and future Bukowski admirers. I can tell you people are as passionate about Hank's life, art, and historic literary contributions as I am. I am in a good place now...Thanks to Bottle Bill and MJP for setting me up here on Bukowski.net!

I was gonna sign in on the newbie forum but I saw the beating that Numbers guy took so I beat it over here. Like MJP said WTF!

Cheers,

Aaron Krumhansl

Hi Aaron and welcome. Now, down to business... what are the two "Canceled" items in the bibliography? Inquiring minds want to know!

<edit> By the way, I should note that I think you did an outstanding job with the biblio. Thank you for a really valuable reference. I imagine it must have been a lot of work.

Chronic:

I dig that name...

#39 The Mt. Alverno Review 1971 Bukowski, Morrison, et al Skyline has one for $65. Montfort had a copy signed by everyone but Morrison and maintained that a small limited edition of signed copies were issued in 1971. It felt like an a-item at the time but was nixed in editing for non-conformity.

#140 was an X-Ray broadside (I'll have to do some mining to give you more details) that was edited out under the non-conform decision.

At the time of these decisions too much typesetting had been done to re-number the entries. Typesetting=$ sad but true story.

Ahhhhhhh!

Thanks so much for dealing with our (my) pedantic quibbles so patiently.
I'm sure there's more to come.

Thanks for the great bibliography and...
...great to have you here!

Buk on a bike:

Not quibblish or pedantic to me at all. Quite interesting actually, I'm glad to learn about correction issues and possibly fix or clear the air on other items.

It is truly lamentable that there was not a Bukowski.net when I was researching and compiling. You guys have all done a terrific job here. So much more could have been possible.

Thanks also for your kind words.

Oh, he's a special case. It usually doesn't go that far, but sometimes you have to let an ugly scene play itself out.

Ah let's be truly objective when we talk about the special numbers case... Just kidding, objectively of course, but at the same time that was some funny shit MJP! I got a kick outta that guy.

Thanks for the info. I (and others here) have been wondering about these for a long time. Have you continued to keep track of later Bukowski "A" items for a possible revised edition (fingers crossed)?

Yes, I'm sure that the nearly 900 members of this forum could help fund the project and we have a couple of publishers in our midst, no?

A revised and updated bibliography...

Let's get it done... it's been nearly ten years. :)

Hey, Aaron, welcome aboard.

Did you really laid your hands on a copy of A Bukowski Album? Have you ever seen a copy of the infamous Write mag? :D

I'll lay odds on the answer to that if anyone wants to bet... ;)

Chronic / Buk-on-a-bike

Yes an update is in the works and Bottle Bill is the go to guy for publication. This will take some time of course but with the help of you cats it should be much easier than the first go round.

Cirerita - I did not personally examine the Charles Bukowski Album - this item was examined by Jeffrey Miller (BSP Paul Bowles editor/bibliographer) the copy used being the one in Don Klein's collection. Oddly enough Montfort did not have this item it's a tough one to find. This is the only item in the bib that I did not personally examine everything else made its way into my clutches at one point or another.

Write Magazine - I have heard a lot about it but have never seen one. Also not in Montfort's collection. I tend to believe that it exists (NYMark has seen an issue or located one -by the way hello Mark been a long time eh? If you are the Mark I think you are) going on the assumption that the publication exists I don't doubt that Hank sent something to them. I will talk to some little mag people and see what I can come up with.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes.

I was going to wait for Aaron to announce it and am very happy that the cat is out of the bag! I saw the questions being posted and wanted to say something, but wanted to wait for Aaron to say it first. Yes, it is in the works.
All best,

Bill

Wow! That is good news! I was thinking about buying Aaron's book, but now I will wait for the updated version...

Welcome Aaron! Glad to have a Buk specialist aboard...

Hi Aaron. Yup, it's me. Glad you're finally here. I hope your family is doing well. I still have the copy of your bib with the wine-stained thumb print and the beautiful broadside you printed!

I do not have, nor have I ever seen, a copy of WRITE. If you search for the WRITE thread, you'll see that I did some research a while back but hit a brick wall. I belive it may have existed at some point (there are too many mentions by Bukowski to doubt it) but I don't think that we mere mortals will ever see a copy.

EXCELLENT news... Bottle of Smoke Press will really do it justice!

Yes, great news! Is this going to be an addendum or a revised edition? Bill, you're more or less a one-man operation, right? I imagine a fully revised edition would be quite a task for you.

Hi,
The planned Bibliography is to be an addendum to the Biblio, not a replacement of the biblio. There are some details that are being worked on that will make it more involved than just detailing the years from 1999 - 2007.

What I'm saying, is that you would want to get the Biblio that is out now, as it is an extremely valuable reference that will be built upon for the next volume.

Best,
Bill

Thanks, Bill! I thought it would be a whole new Biblio, but a separate update is (nearly) just as good...

Aaron, I hope you realize that you've opened a Pandora's Box with this biblio update. You may regret the day you decided to take on this project but, personally, I am thrilled that this is in the works.

Mark et al:

The box was opened the day the book was published.

The addendum will cover the A items not included in the book. That leaves an option to issue a supplement to the original book detailing the known errors and omissions. This information can only be compiled as it is found. Items like the missing Terror Street poem will be added to the list.

One unfortunate circumstance of the first go round was the inability to locate all of the original publication info i.e. Paget and some others.

Chronic- is there a thread related to the lettered Day It Snowed? Do you have a copy that you can detail for me? There is no indication of a lettered series in the colophon for this Paget item or the Paget Barfly. However the colophon of Bukowski/Purdy letters indicates a lettered series which is a known item that is openly traded sold etc.

If there is a letterd Day It Snowed it is quite surprising that it has eluded the likes of Montfort, Klein, Berlinski, etc. Surprising but not impossible. I suppose when it comes to collecting Bukowski anything is possible. Write?/Right...

AK

There's also the missing lettered edition of "The Day It Snowed In L.A."

Bill, is your update going to have corrections to the original, or strictly new publications? There's a poem missing from the list for Terror Street: https://bukowskiforum.com/showthread.php?t=194
