Factotum - the movie (1 Viewer)

Bad news: Factotum has lost its american distributor. I just noticed that it had been pulled off Picturehouse's web page.

Good news: after its showing to a satisfied audience (23 jan.) at the Sundance Fil Festival Factotum picked up a new distributor. Has anyone heard of IFC?:

"Bent Hamer's Bukowski opus Factotum is hilarious, heartbreaking, and yes, inspirational. Matt Dillion does the alcohol-loving, job-hating, hard-writing Henry Chinaski proud. Lili Taylor makes pancakes in her underwear. The best news: the film landed a suitable distributor at Sundance. IFC Films will release Factotum later this year."

After the Sundance showing new reviews are starting to show up:

IFC is the Independent Film Channel on cable in the U.S. (and elsewhere?). So it will probably show up on cable here, and then DVD. I don't believe IFC typically does big country-wide theatrical releases.

Yeah I can't really see a theatrical release for this. Hopefully it goes straight to dvd so I can purchase. I still have yet to see it and the trailor I watched lacked any sound whatsoever.

The trailer links posted in the other thread do have sound.

Maybe your QuickTime Player volume was not set correctly (its independent of the normal system volume).

Did you try right-clicking and Saving the clips to your system before playing?

Worth a view certainly.

whoa so then they are planning a theatrical release for this?
that would be great if so. August 18th is a lot longer off than I had anticipated.

and hank, yeah I'll try that. thanks.

I hope I'm not causing any trouble with this post...

Let me just say this. Guys, if you look hard enough a perfect copy of the foreign dvd release of this is floating around. If me saying that is a problem then I appoligize. I just figure there are a few other people that can't wait to see this. The August 18th release date was killing me so I started searching.

so you're saying you already have a bootlegged copy of this?
that's not surprising. I'm sure anybody could find it if they searched hard enough.
I think I'll wait.

the reviewers were not kind here in pdx. i have to say i just couldn't go see this with the piff (portland international film festival) audience. i will wait for it because i don't prefer the film festival crowd here. about everything sells out and in my view more because people are into the film fest than seeing the particular film. 'be here to love me' played last year at the festival, but i waited for it to get to the clinton street, a small kind of dive old neighborhood theater with a bar attached. where it is playing right now.

ifc does releases to local 'art' venues like this. probably at times unrelated to when they show it on the ifc channel. my hunch is the clinton street will pick this up some time next fall and i will enjoy seeing it with the mob there more than the piff crowd. probably other places have the same deal. i've seen a couple ifc releases there.

anyhow, here's how the local press was:
the 20 something alt weekly: http://www.portlandmercury.com/portland/Content?category=22191&issue=37512
their reviewers pretty much are not accurate on a regular basis, nor inciteful. ha, edit, they are inciteful, but not insightful.

the big newhouse conglomerate owned daily:
http://www.oregonlive.com/search/index.ssf?/base/living/1140567931139290.xml?oregonian?lvls&coll=7

see, these are the people i don't want to watch this with. so, i just couldn't go.

another edit - didn't mean to sound so negative about the people who put on the piff, i know there's some great people involved

Well, pretty much everything is floating around out there (if things can float on the internet). I don't care if you talk about downloading this stuff. In general terms. I don't want the RIAA or Jack Valente up my ass over some detailed piracy tutorial that someone posts.

To me, all the codec, divx, p2p voodoo bullshit isn't worth saving $3 on the rental. I'm old, so I can wait for August. August is nothing. Entire years pass by while I'm scratching my ass, so what do I care. ;)

LOL. Here in the UK we have a TV show called "Grumpy Old Men" where various famous middle-aged and older guys just moan and groan about modern life and all of its trappings. It makes great viewing. Maybe its based on the Bukowski Tapes :)

But that's a great line mjp.

;)

Ha - thanks. But sadly, it's true. All those cliches you hear from old geezers are turning out to be true. And I'm not even that old yet.

matt dillon? excuse me, but that really doesn't sound too exciting. i can't think of a better lead actor from the top of my head, but .. matt dillon?

August? It says March 21st on amazon. I pre-ordered it on target, and it says it will be shipped in early March.

Here in the UK the DVD is scheduled for release on April 3, 2006. Again, this info is sourced from Amazon (co.uk)

Hmm...the movie (Factotum) doesn't open in theaters until August in the U.S...unless the DVD is coming out first, I think Amazon/Target may be tripping. Born Into This ships in Early March. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

Yeah, you're right, that's it. I was just looking at the BIT amazon page and just couldn't make the mental connection. Sorry about that.
