Greatest Guitarists - Yesterday & Today (1 Viewer)

i'm a sucker for this stuff - probably cause i'm such a shitty guitar player - but this cat is really good.

don't know if any of the good musicians around here will dig it but...

It's alright. It's well played for sure but I'm not a big fan of note for note interpretations. I dig Marc Ribot. One of the best alive. Here's one of my favorite guitar solos of all time. Happy Birthday to him too. here @ 2:06 mark.

Testify! One could make the case that note for note isn't even an interpretation. Of course, one could place emphasis here rather than there using the exact same notes, but in my mind, that's still note for note.

Those examples exhibit strong ability (he nails the nuances) that is completely bereft of creativity. That's needed on a resume for a tribute act, but a curse on a resume for "original musician." Each of us can choose which is closer to "art."
