Oh they knew each other. Not from research, but real life. I've heard the behind the scenes of untold stories. As well have gone through personal belongings of their friendship. Was amazed to find books and letters from Bukowski that he had received whilst they partied together.I remember liking Sherman's book. To me, the memoirs, even the cranky, bitter ones (not that Sherman's is bitter), always contain a few little nuggets you can't get from books from people like Sounse, who is a decent researcher, but didn't know Bukowski.
