Looking for LA Free Press April 19 1974

anyone got it? I've checked the database here and JSTOR, too... JSTOR skips from April 12 1974 into May; the database omits April altogether.

I'm after the second bit of Bukowski's Howard Stantling piece, the tale he tells regarding Wantling and the Illinois reading. April 12 bookends DOM with "continued next week"... but I can't place it.

thanks, all

--I've read the Sounes account and Bukowski's bit from Wine-Stained Notebook. After full picture.

Is this what you want? I shudder at the memory of the microfilm morgue at Burnaby, BC's Simon Fraser University.

Digney--thanks kindly, that's exactly it. All the gratitude.

Now I've got Sounes to make sense of: "It was a vicious, underhand piece of work ... [Wantling] had a number of friends in LA who would have called to tell him about such an obvious and outrageous character assassination" (Locked in the Arms of a Crazy Life 137). I dunno about that angle, seems perhaps a bit overstated. The Ruth bit does the job well enough.

Well, I love Wantling. Boundless tragedy, the whole case...

thanks again!
