Need some advice as in what category should post into?

Hello there,

This is my first post after just joining this discussion, so please forgive me and provide kind assistance if I have posted to the wrong subsection.

I am new here but a real enthusiast and loving😍 this community so far. I have a background in teaching coding and in education and feel I could help with documentation, at least for starters.

As a new member in this forum and wish to share and gain some knowledge. I am looking forward to create my own discussion to resolve my query and gain some knowledge though I have taken part in various discussion which is definitely helped me a lot.

Also in what category should be taken depends on what factors?

Thank you in advance.😇

Hello there,

I am new to the Bukowski Forum and fairly new to Charles Bukowskis work as well. I have heard a lot about his unique writing style and raw portrayal of life; and I am excited to dive into his books. Although; with such a vast collection of novels; poetry; and short stories; I am not quite sure where to begin.

Could you recommend a good starting point for a newcomer?🤔 I have read that some of his works are more autobiographical; while others focus on fiction. I am particularly interested in exploring the themes of his writing; such as the struggles of everyday life; the human condition; and his often gritty; realistic portrayal of the world.

I have been considering starting with Post Office or Ham on Rye because they seem to be popular choices; but I am open to other suggestions as well. Additionally; if there are any particular poems or collections that you feel are essential reading to get a sense of his poetry style; I would love to hear about those too.

Also, I have gone through this post; https://bukowskiforum.com/threads/recommended-bukowski-books-for-newbie-uipath.8847/page-2 which definitely helped me out a lot.

I would also appreciate any insights into the context or background that might enhance my understanding and appreciation of his work. Are there particular elements of his personal life or historical context that are important to know beforehand?

Thank you in advance for your help and assistance.😇

Post Office is a good place to start. I don't think you need any context or background beyond what he mentions himself in his work.

Hello there,
And a Howdy, do.

Wait.I want to be clear…You have “heard of him”

This?
Oh no…

and I am excited to dive into his books.

Try a YouTube video first. Something about the cadence of His Voice never changed. You’ll get a feel for the personality

Here: https://youtube.com/shorts/d3AR0FUPBek?si=Way_2QCnqPYmpFnw

Watch that. Then read him. You’ll read them all eventually, so just pick one.

You’ll see…

And welcome.

>snipped the rest - READ HIM, he’s good<

Although; with such a vast collection of novels; poetry; and short stories; I am not quite sure where to begin.
