Poem from Born Into This (1 Viewer)

What is the name of the poem read by Harry Dean Stranton in born into this. The film only shows him reading the end and I'd like to know where I could find it. It's about Bukowski's wild and drunken life with Jane if that helps at all.

Thanks for reminding me about that one. It should be in the spotlight section.

And now it is.

Yeah, I checked out that thread before and I believe they don't list the one I'm thinking of. The thread said We Ain't Got No Money, Honey, But We Got Rain was read in Born Into This but I don't recall hearing it.

Okay, so I got my DVD out... You're right it wasn't listed.

The poem Harry Dean Stanton is reading from there is "torched-out" from "The Last Night of the Earth Poems".

[This is at 00:28:54 into the main film on the DVD release]

torched-out (excerpts)

[...]

to find your lady
already drunk,
dirty dishes in the
sink,
the dog unfed,
the flowers unwatered,
the bed
unmade,
the ashtrays full of
punched-out
lipstick-smeared
cigarettes.

[...]

"ah, you asshole!
what're you doing in
there, playing with
yourself?"

[...]

"YOU GOD DAMNED WHORE,
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT
ANYTHING?
SITTING THERE ON YOUR
DEAD ASS AND
SUCKING AT THE VINO!"

[...]

"DON'T HIT ME! DON'T HIT
ME!
YOU'D HIT ME BUT YOU
WOULDN'T HIT A
MAN!"

"HELL NO, I WOULDN'T
HIT A MAN, YOU THINK
I'M CRAZY?"

[...]

"hey! where the hell
you going?"

"I'm going to the fucking
bar!"

"not without me!
not without me, buster!"

[...]

to get our stools.
to sit before the long mirror.

[...]

to tell the bartender,
"vodka 7."

[...]

everything was far away
then,
the post office, the world,
the past and the
future.

to have our drinks arrive.
to take the first hit in the
dark bar.

life couldn't get any
better.
