Freddie Hubbard, trumpeter was 70
1:18 PM Monday December 29

Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, who played with John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock and other legends, died today at Sherman Oaks Hospital. He was 70 and had suffered a heart attack on Nov. 26. Hubbard's last concert was in June in New York at a party celebrating the release of his final album. Hubbard received the National Endowment for the Arts' Jazz Masters Award in 2006.

christ, my heart just went my shoes. this is sad news, I was a big fan.

I'll have to break out Hub Cap tonight.

shit.

Just heard the news.
I'm a big fan as well.

I had to sell one of his records in 1993, the cover was silver.
What's the title of that album; anyone?
I'm not sure but I think he made this album in the seventies,
Turkish or middle east music influences.

And, in weird synchronicity, the great modern sculptor Robert Graham, 70, died on Saturday of cancer in L.A. Among his best known pieces was the monument to my fave, Duke Ellington, in New York and a memorial to Charlie Parker in Kansas City. He was a big name in the L.A. arts and culture community, of course, and his widow is the great Anjelica Huston.
