I get many phonecalls now.
They are all alike.
"are you Charles Bukowski,
the writer?"
"yes," I tell them.
and they tell me
that they understand my
writing,
and some of them are writers
or want to be writers
and they have dull and
horrible jobs
and they can't face the room
the apartment
the walls
that night"”
they want somebody to talk
to,
and they can't believe
that I can't help them
that I don't know the words.
they can't believe
that often now
I double up in my room
grab my gut
and say
"Jesus Jesus Jesus, not
again!"
they can't believe
that the loveless people
the streets
the loneliness
the walls
are mine too.
and when I hang up the phone
they think I have held back my
secret.
I don't write out of
knowledge.
when the phone rings
I too would like to hear words
that might ease
some of this.
that's why my number's
listed.

Thought you might enjoy this.
I would have enjoyed seeing a credit to Bukowski.

Other than that, it was typical self-indulgent YouTube shit. As an interpretation of Bukowski's work it was also shit. But they all are, so don't let that deter you.

I would have enjoyed seeing a credit to Bukowski.

something like: "every single word by charles bukowski" would've been nice

put on your thickest skin, joel, it's a real tough crowd here.

btw joel you can check out probably the most creative/worthwhile interpretation
of bukowski here -

well, i didn't want to set the bar that high and discourage the poor guy.

This association Noir Désir/Bukowski delights me! Thanks!

English translation:

Le Vent Nous Portera

I'm not scared of the road
We should see, must taste
From meander in the hollow of your breast
And there everything will be OK
The wind will carry us

Your message to the Big Bear
And the trajectory of your race
An instant of velvet
Even if it's not useful though
The wind will take it away
Everything will disappear but
The wind will carry us

The caress and the grapeshot
And that wound that tears us appart
The palace of everyday
From yesterday and tomorow
The wind will carry them

The genetic in shoulder-belt
Chromosom in the atmosphere
Taxis for galaxies
And my flying carpet says ?
The wind will take it away
Everything will disappear but
The wind will carry us

This perfume of our dead years
What can knock at your door
Infinity of destinies
We lay some but what do we retain?
The wind will take it away

During the tide rises
And everyone is doing its accounts
I take in the hollow of your shadow
Dusts of you
The wind will carry them
Everything will disappear but
The wind will carry us
