To answer the question in the subject, yes they are.

Unless...you get an email notice of a reply to a private message and you reply to that email.

When you do that, you're sending your reply (and the original message) to the forum contact email address. Which is me. The person on the other end of the conversation never sees your reply.

So if you want your private messages to remain private, answer those private messages in the forum, not via email.

I'll see if I can edit the template that sends the private message notice to include this info.

I still get half a dozen of these in my inbox every week, so if you don't want me to see your private conversations, don't reply to the email notices you get.
