Help!!

Hello to everybody!! I'd like to know if someone knows from which book is exerted this sentence:

"When I said I'd done a wank thinking of you you did not take it well. But I had not the courage to tell you that I love you."​

I translated this from Italian, but I'm not sure this is the right translation because I don't know the title of the original book. Thank you all!!!
 
That must have been some translation.

This is as close as I can find, it's from Ham On Rye:
I thought of rushing in, grabbing the cat and running, but I didn't have the nerve. I was afraid that the bulldog would attack me. The knowledge that I didn't have the courage to do what was necessary made me feel terrible.
Which isn't even close to what you've got there.

Has to make you wonder who you've been reading.
