You know, I've read Didion's Play It As It Lays three times but I've yet to see the film version with Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins; as I recall there were rights clearances problems getting it onto video, and I was warned to avoid the version that showed up on late night broadcast TV because it was reportedly cut to shreds.
