Anyone know where that term, Poet Laureate of Skid Row, originated? I'm really over seeing it in every half-assed article about Bukowski. Really.

Pretty sure this book didn't coin the term, but it might have helped to popularize it lately.

I feel like I first saw it in an older book review, but I bet marina del rey is right and 'Drinking with Bukowski' poularized it recently...

I like the term Poet Laureate of Skid Row. Though no, I don't think Buk is "beat". There's a quote on the back of the "new" print of Post Office... something about the Beats taking poetry far, and Buk took it further.

I don't know where the term came from, I just always see it everywhere Buk is mentioned.

just pulled this from some blog:

"A prolific author of the ordinary lives of people, in 1986, Charles Bukowski was dubbed a "laureate of American lowlife" by Time Magazine."

pretty close...maybe it morphed from this to the current quote?
