I began reading Bukowski in the early '80s where I sat a row in
front of him at the premier of Tales of Ordinary Madness
listening to the clunky sound of his smuggled in wine bottles.

oh, yeah, pg. 368. I think he is referring to the night Tales movie premiered. He was quiet the first 10 or 15 minutes of the film and then red wine started to shout back at the screen. I don't think he particularly liked the Gazzara's portrayal or even the movie. He did yell back at someone trying to "shsss him down." Buk only doubled down. Linda Lee was with him. I stood in line behind Sam Shepard who was attending the movie alone as I was. Guess it says Shepard was a big fan of Buk? Anyone know?

I always remember this photo when the film is mentioned and how uncomfortable they looked. But I saw others just now that look more jovial.

Well it may have been the premier party after the movie that I
wasn't invited to and maybe Sam Shepard too? Either way
Buk was hitting the red wine with respect.
