This is only of interest to nerds and economists, but I changed all the dollar value links in the timeline to point to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics calculator for a more accurate and current conversion.
If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about, wherever the timeline mentions a dollar amount, there is a link to a converter that adjusts for inflation. So when you read that Bukowski sold his father's house for $15,000 you might think, "big deal." But when you click the link and find out that is equal to almost $115,000 in today's money, you get a somewhat better perspective on what the dollar amounts meant to him at the time.
