A day at the races with Charles Bukowski

Anyone on the forum ever go to the track with Bukowski - Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Del Mar, Los Alamitos? I'm interested in learning to what extent the way he wrote about his days at the track align with the observations of someone who had the chance to accompany him.

Most times Bukowski discouraged people from talking to him at the track. Occasionally he'd sign a racing form if they were polite. Some of his girlfriends, his wife and Michael Montfort went to the track with him. He also had interactions with regulars, but he describes them negatively in his writing. He was basically, "Stand back and let a man work."

A friend of mine saw him at the track several times and said that Bukowski kept to himself, focused on the races and made it clear that he didn't welcome interaction with his fans.
