Offered here is a remarkable original period carbon typescript of Charles Bukowski’s poem “I Do It While Thinking About Things,” dating from 1977.
The manuscript consists of two typed pages bearing Bukowski’s Los Angeles/Carlton Way address. The second page is signed and dated in ink “Charles Bukowski / 10-15-77.”
Included with the manuscript is a signed April 24, 2001 provenance/authenticity statement from Scott Harrison, owner of The Abandoned Planet Bookstore, San Francisco. The statement identifies this manuscript as the copy sold to Kelly A. Roby and describes it as a carbon typescript submitted for publication. Harrison further states that the date and signature are original and in Charles Bukowski’s own hand and guarantees its authenticity.
