Holy shit, these are amazing.

When I read the headline I thought, "Right, you mean color tinted photography from the early 1900s..." but these are real color photos.

From the way some of them are off-register, it looks like he was using some kind of three color/three camera method to make composite color. In 1909!

Don't know how I never heard of him: Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii. The first image here is a self-portrait...

You are right! Sorry I missed this thread over the last week. These are amazing. I especially love the 2nd one, but maybe I am being too obvious. That seems like the winning photograph here. I would hang that shit on my wall fo sho! Beautiful imagery, technique - amazing actually (for its time), and color (also amazing for its time).

There are very few color photographers that I absolutely love. Maybe I will post a couple of them and bore the pants off everyone!
