(Now here is where it gets interesting. In short a never ending nightmare of failure. So there!). Bukowski does not get the job. Bukowski, after years of writing mostly prose, after his last story in MATRIX, the issue after this one (1948) he does not get another story published until 1957.

I've been mulling this over, and $17K seems too high for a magazine appearance, even as rare and early as this one is. I'd be surprised if it went for that much.

Scott’s price rationale is as funny as always. Maybe if it was signed in ‘47 it might be worth half of that. For some reason, that late signature bugs me…
