ABE Highest Priced (1 Viewer)

I wish this link could be refreshed here every day,
mjp
;) .

I only entered 'Bukowski' in the author search,
And asked for "highest priced" to be listed first->
http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?bx=off&sts=t&ds=30&bi=0&an=bukowski&y=13&x=77&sortby=1

So, right now the top 2 are 'valued' the same....
($8500)
Which would you choose?!?!
No problem here...

This forum is certainly in its infancy,
But I bet eventually the above link will be automatically 'refreshed' somehow
(or maybe already now it can be done, really, I'm clueless to all this)
And I bet there will be much more "If only I had bought_____"

Oh mega-millions lottery god, smile on me!

Neither one of those is worth half what they are asking. I think those highest prices are meaningless because 99.999999% of them will never be realized.

Highest known sale price would be a different matter.

I used to think that too,
But all you need is one buyer,
(think e-bay)
And that is suddenly what it's worth.

And $8500 is nothing to some people,...
I have a friend
(mentioned in some other thread)
Who is selling a Buk manuscript to Sean Penn
For crazy (ala for some of Scott's manuscript asking prices (a couple of years ago)) money.
And Sean could buy all of this stuff,
Ah,
But that begs the question,
Is it worth it then?!

Egads, I'm getting to deep,
Must kill some brain cells! :D

BTW-> I've almost always received a customary 20% discount on the asking price from ABE
(Find the booksellers e-mail addy and ask directly).

Tell them you will buy from them directly,...
Yeah, I know,
A nasty trick to pull on ABE
(They are a great service)
But $ is $
(Unless you're Sean Penn, etc.)

HI,
I thought that ABE only made money from the monthly fees for listing, not for the amount that the book sells for? That was how it was expressed to me when I was thinking about opening a store. If that is the case, then the reason that they are giving you the 20% discount, is because they think that you are a book dealer, or just know that you are a great guy.

Best,
BIll

They do... I think.
But I do know,
And meant, that if you can contact (and buy from) the seller directly
That they often will give you a 20% discount from the list price.
(They do seem to want to by-pass ABE....)
