hello and help (1 Viewer)

hello everybody,
I wish to translate some of bukowski's poems to hebrew and I need some help.

in Love & Fame & Death - "wire" means a real fence?
"screen" is it a television screen?
"plain" -> simple?

thanks,
yoav

hi yoav, welcome!

I'd say the 'wire' is one of these net-like things you put on your windows in hot areas to avoid flies and mosquitos coming in. In the same context I'd think the 'screen' is the window.
(like the first line indicated, he may be sitting on his desk just in front of the window, looking out - that would explain the whole setting.)

I'm no native speaker, but think 'plain' in this context means something like "you could hear the scream over the whole city."

any other comments/interpretations from here?

Yeah, "wire" and "screen" both refer to a window screen. Keeps the bugs (in this case a fly) out.

I take his use of the word "plain" to mean uninteresting.
